President Obama’s budget is out – so how does it mesh with the bailout? That’s a very good question (or questions). However, first a little perspective . . . .
This is a proposed budget. It still has to be passed by Congress, and many items in it will be fiercely debated and challenged. Don’t expect the budget to be approved in its current state, but what will survive and what will be cut is anyone’s guess.
So what’s the bad news?

Everything else is going green (a good thing, in my opinion), so why not your funeral? After all, the bamboo casket at the left looks rather comfy.

We’ve all heard the stories of small towns which set up speed traps to raise revenue. Now that the economy is down, and therefore the tax rolls are depressed, states are looking at ways to raise revenue.
Here in the greater Phoenix area, most of us would argue that photo radar speed cameras have successfully raised revenue for Phoenix and Scottsdale. But that doesn’t help the rest of the state.
The new trend is to give police officers the ability to pull over drivers and issue tickets solely for drivers not wearing their seat belts. Current law requires a separate moving violation (like speeding, expired license plates, etc.) before an officer can ticket you for not wearing your seat belt. The State of Ohio is looking closely at this law change, and estimates it would raise an additional $26.8 million if it changes the law. Read the rest of this entry »
